Smart Wartime Economy in Europe, Security in the Region, and NATO’s Future Plans: Here Is the Full Agenda of the Riga Conference-2023

The Riga Conference is one of the most important platforms for discussions on security and foreign policy in the Baltic Sea Region.

The annual security and foreign policy forum «Riga Conference-2023» will take place at the National Library of Latvia on 20−21 October. For the second time, the «Vchasno» news agency will act as an information partner of the event alongside Latvian and international media.

The conference will be opened by H.E. Edgars Rinkēvičs, President of the Republic of Latvia. Participants will be addressed by Thierry Breton, European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Krišjānis Kariņš, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Andris Sprūds, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vīķe Freiberga, President of the Republic of Latvia 1999−2007, Anna Wieslander, Director for Northern Europe at the Atlantic Council, and many others.

Among the speakers of the Riga Conference-2023 are British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris, Estonian Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur, NATO’s Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security David Cattler, Head of the NATO Information and Documentation Centre Vineta Kleine, Director of the Polish Institute of International Affairs Sławomir Dębski and about 100 other participants.


One of the most important platforms for discussions on security and foreign policy in the Baltic Sea Region since 2006, this year’s conference focuses on prospects for a smart wartime economy in Europe, European security including the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, leading the way in times of global geopolitical turbulence, the transatlantic partnership and its strategy in the war frontier, NATO’s future plans, and Artificial Intelligence and technology challenges. At the end of a complex geopolitical year for the world, the conference will analyse power shifts in the Indo-Pacific and their impact on the transatlantic community, and many other key elements of security and defense.

Among the specific topics of discussion:

— future of European security in a geopolitically contested world;
— defending NATO’S frontline: military strategy for air & land defense;
— a comprehensive strategy for the secure Ukraine;
— new defense industry;
— how not to lose the information war.
