Militants in Donbas use the newest Russian communication system «Auriga-1.2V», which has been in service in the Russian army since 2014 and has never been exported to Ukraine.
The «Auriga-1.2V» communication system has been used by the Russian military in Syria since 2016, according to a study by the DFRLab.
Laboratory experts found two pictures of mercenaries of the Russian Federation, posing against the background of the satellite antenna of this system in the occupied Donetsk region.
«While Russia has decreased the number of active duty servicemen and heavy weaponry sent to eastern Ukraine, it has maintained — if not increased — both the quantity and quality of non-lethal equipment, along with continuing to provide the necessary personnel with technical knowledge of these systems, such as electronic warfare specialists», the message says.
The images discovered by experts were posted on social networks by the Russian military. An analysis of the photographs showed that the survey was made on the outskirts of occupied Makiivka in the spring and summer of 2017.
Those in the frame of the communication system can intercept signals, conduct reconnaissance and gain access to advanced communications.
