EU Countries Take «Patronage» over Donbas Cities — Representative of Ukraine to the EU

The search for «guardianship» for the cities of Donbas among the EU countries has been almost completed, and soon the European states will begin their «patronage» over the settlements of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

At the moment, discussions are continuing on which countries in Europe and on which cities they will take «patronage», the representative of Ukraine to the EU, Mykola Tochitskyi said in a comment to open.dn.ua.

According to Mykola Tochitskyi, the Baltic countries, Denmark, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia will most actively assist the cities of Donbas.

At the moment, specific projects are being prepared to be implemented in Donbas.

At the same time, the representative of Ukraine to the EU noted that the history of the emergence of many cities of Donbas is closely connected with European entrepreneurs.

«A lot of cities in Eastern Ukraine are closely connected with European countries, Mykola Tochitskyi said. — For example, at the end of the 19th century, Belgian entrepreneurs founded a business in several cities of the Luhansk region. Moreover, this business became city-forming. And it will be just great if modern Belgium takes and reconstructs, for example, a school in this city. Put next to the flag of his country and the EU. This will once again remind residents of a small town in the east of Ukraine that they are closely connected with Europe and are Europeans».

The idea of EU countries' patronage over the cities of Donbas was voiced by the former head of the Donetsk region Pavlo Zhebrivsky, in August 2018 it was raised again by the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko.
