President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko put into effect the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to terminate the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia. The president announced this on his Facebook page.
«I have enacted the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to terminate the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia», he reports.
Earlier Poroshenko press service reported that before September 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will send a note to Russia on the termination of the 1997 Treaty oo Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and Russia.
The head of state noted that all international organizations, including the UN, will be informed about this decision.
The Treaty of Friendship between Ukraine and Russia was signed in 1997. The document was concluded for a period of ten years — in 2008 its operation was automatically extended.
The decree of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, which brokes the Treaty, came into force today.
