The Ukrainian Oscar Committee announced a film that will be put for nominating for an Oscar in the category «Best Foreign Language Film». The film «Donbass» by Sergey Loznitsa will claim on the statuette. It was reported on the page of the committee on Facebook.
The question of whether the picture will enter the final nomination of applicants for the award will be decided by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Academy will promulgate shortlist on January 22, 2019, and the award ceremony will be held on February 24 in Los Angeles.
«Donbass» was shot in the co-production of four countries — Ukraine, the Netherlands, France, and Romania. The roles were played by both Ukrainian and Russian actors.
The film consists of 13 intertwining plots, which demonstrate different spheres of life in the occupied territories. The tape shows how militants take away a car from a local businessman, immigrants huddle in the basement, an official steals property in a hospital and journalist shoot fake news for television.
In the Ukrainian film distribution tape will be released on October 18, 2018.
