Half of Donbas Residents Consider Themselves Happy — Poll

60% of Ukraine residents in 2018 consider themselves very or mostly happy.

Most of the «lucky ones» were in the western region — 69%. In the east and south of Ukraine, 50% consider themselves happy. This is evidenced by the results of a nationwide study conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv «Democratic Initiatives» foundation together with the sociological service of the Razumkov Center from December 19 to 25, 2018 in all regions of Ukraine except the Crimea and the occupied territories of Donbas.

In addition, 23% of respondents believe that next year will definitely be better than the current one, another 55% hope so, 10% assume that there will be more bad things, and only 1% are sure that next year will be even worse than this one.

The main feeling of people when they think about the future of Ukraine is the feeling of hope (52%). Anxiety is experienced by 33% of respondents and optimism — 28%. These feelings prevail in all regions of Ukraine, including in Donbas (35% - hope, 29% - anxiety).

During the survey, 2017 respondents aged 18 years and older were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. For comparison, data from surveys conducted in different years by the Ilko Kucheriv «Democratic Initiatives» foundation with the Razumkov Center and the Kiev International Institute of Sociology are presented. The survey was financed in the framework of the MATRA project of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
